Nextcloud

anymize connects to your Nextcloud and reads files, appointments and contacts without real names going to an AI model.

What you can do with it

Once your Nextcloud is connected, you just ask in chat instead of clicking through folders. The assistant searches itself and reads what it finds.

  • “Find the tenancy-agreement file for Musterstraße in my Nextcloud.”
  • “What is in the Templates folder?”
  • “What is in my Nextcloud calendar this week?”
  • “What is Mr Schmidt's phone number?”

There are three areas in total: files, calendar and contacts. Each has its own page with the details below.

How to create an app password

  1. 01Sign in to your Nextcloud web interface.
  2. 02Click your profile picture at the top right and open Personal settings.
  3. 03On the left choose Security and scroll all the way down to App passwords.
  4. 04Give it a name, for example anymize, and generate the password.
  5. 05Copy the password immediately. It is shown only once.

An app password is access to your whole account, without partial rights. With two-factor sign-in you need one anyway. The official guide is in the Nextcloud user documentation under WebDAV: https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/latest/user_manual/en/files/access_webdav.html

How to connect your Nextcloud

There are two paths. The guided one is more convenient, the app password the path for anyone who would rather control what is granted themselves. Whether your Nextcloud sits on-premises or with a provider makes no difference, only the address is different.

  1. 01In the sidebar open Apps and then the Connectors area.
  2. 02Search for Nextcloud and click Connect.
  3. 03Guided: enter your Nextcloud address, for example https://cloud.your-company.com. We open your instance's sign-in page in a new tab; you sign in there and allow access.
  4. 04Or app password: use the password from the section above and enter address, username and app password here.
  5. 05Then you set which of the three areas the assistant may use.

Only https addresses are accepted. If your Nextcloud still runs over http, that is the first point your IT should touch.

Why one app password covers all three areas

Nextcloud has no partial permissions for an app password. An app password is always access to your account, not to a single folder. We would rather say that clearly than pretend it is narrower.

What the three cards in the overview really switch are the tools: if you turn contacts off, the assistant no longer gets a tool with which it can read contacts. The access itself stays the same.

AreaWhat the assistant can do there
FilesSearch by file name, list a folder, read a file.
CalendarList appointments in a time range, across all your calendars.
ContactsSearch the address book by name, email, phone or organization.

Can anymize upload files to my Nextcloud?

No. The Nextcloud connection is read-only, and not as a setting but as a build: there are simply no tools in anymize that could create, change or delete anything in Nextcloud. The connector is therefore on the list of connections that may only read, and in the overview it carries the “Read only” mark.

In practice that means: the assistant can summarise a document for you, but the summary lands in chat, not as a new file in your folder. You can of course download it and file it yourself.

What is anonymized

Everything that comes from your Nextcloud goes through the same anonymization as an uploaded file. The client name in the contract, the address in the contact and the participant in the appointment become placeholders before anything goes to an AI model. You still read the answer with the right names.

The mapping from placeholder to real name stays in your workspace. The AI model provider never sees it.
